I just swigged a little NyQuil, now I burn the amount of time I have left on blogging before bed. This is actually a race, who will win?:

1) NyQuil takes effect and i end up crashing on my keyboard
2) The battery life on my laptop goes away and I finish this tomorrow
3) I actually finish this

Ok, as you gather by this point I've been sick, not Swine Flu, but still sucks. At home with the time on hands I have found the comfort of the video gaming community ready and willing to entertain me with some awesome news that will no doubt delight me when I can breathe again. Otherwise I see this mainly as the countdown till E3, so this is only the start of what will be an incredible year.

Starting off is Final Fantasy 13 which we are all reveling in the demo of. For those of you unaware, the japanese blu-ray release of Final Fantasy 7- Advent Children comes with a demo of the 13th game (or 13th game worth of carrying a numeral). The demo is a whopping 5 Gbs and constitutes nearly an hour's worth of game. Other tech nerds reading this are amazed, the rest of you agree I should get out a lot more often. For me, I'm gonna reserve my enthusiasm till I get ahold of the damn thing, simply because of that hours worth of game it seemed most of it was pre-rendered cinemas, most/all of which we've already seen. The thing that actually caught my attention was the new media that was provided for the other two FF13 games VS 13 and Agito 13. Agito is a PSP game, take it or leave it at that. Vs 13 saw a new trailer with in-game graphics. Still no hint as to the gameplay, but based on first impressions this is probably the game I'd rather be playing. For starters the darker aesthetics of its presentation combined with it's misanthropic protagonist possessing unnatural powers to take down throngs of oppressive militant forces is what attracted me to the franchise in 7 and 8..... and to some extent Vagrant Story. Furthermore, still proclaimed as the PS3 exclusive, it is obvious that that game is making full use of the engine. The texturing is virtually flawless and it takes me forever to realize that the scene is actually not pre-rendered footage. I am all for the arrival of the dark Kingdom Hearts.

Next up I have Marvel VS Capcom 2 HD! The demo has gone up on Playstation Network to a resounding..... The Fuck?! Ok, yes its MVC2 and looks great and has online play and I can't wait for the full version, BUT! The demo is only playable by two players on a local system. Two people have to be in the room. Thinking back a decade ago, I never thought this would ever be an issue, and not just because I'm coughing up a lung. Only 6 characters (including Strider and Iron Man), and no online play yet............ If anyone meets ANYONE at Capcom slap em for that. That is a tease and they know it. So its back to Mugen till this is settled. What this is a positive sign of is that they are testing the waters. Anyone with a love of this button masher and half a brain could give them the green light to do another one, but if online play is going to quench our thirst for the moment then I still say get cracking before we realize we've been playing this game for the better half of a decade and we need more.

On a last thought and with the hope-filled promise that tomorrow the powers that be welcome Mish Mash into the E3 convention, I would like to put my two cents into the ring: RARE better have something to show us next month for Killer Instinct 3. I say this hesitantly knowing that Rare have flopped frequently since coming over to Microsoft (and arguably already did on the Gamecube), but the demand is there and Fighting games could use another great entry to the evaporating genre. Lets face it Fighting game fans are chasing Capcom from title to title and arcades are saturated with Street Fighter in no less than 15 forms. SNK has one title on the horizon, but flood remixes of their old titles onto the market. Guilty Gear is still the badass choice for anyone with a brain and Blazeblue is looking equally amazing, but that will get us only so far. Virtua Fighter is as stale as it was back in the 16 bit days, and Soul Calibur is now reduced to the story of a game and it's throw button..... and Darth Vader for no good reason. By the looks of it, Tekken 6 is no further away either, and Dead Or Alive abandoned the fighting game genre for the bikini volleyball pervert-magnet genre.

Saddest news of all is what is going on with Mortal Kombat, which I'd be glad to tell you if annybody can get their story straight. After Midway all but effectively went down the tubes, the prevailing question became what was going to happen with Mortal Kombat (the quality probably won't get better, but its the nostalgia factor we all care about)? According to MCV (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/34065/Warner-Bros-in-for-Midway) Warner Bros might actually be the one to pick up the franchise, which might not be the worst thing that could happen for it. Warner has been looking to get their hooks in the industry for a while and lets face it, they made FEAR 2 more playable than FEAR 1, just pray that we never see Sub Zero go up against Batman again........... though I am not against Green Lantern being in the game.

Looks like I actually finished this, good night!
